Environmental sociology, political economy, world-systems, theory

Biography:
My emphases are the environment, political economy, and macro-level theory, with particular interest in the interaction of humans and the biosphere during the evolution of world-systems. Some of his current research projects include: the development of a theory and empirical analysis of energy flow, societal power, and ecological degradation in the evolution of world-systems (for dissertation); a study of upward sweeps in city and empire sizes for the last 5000 years; and, a theoretical and simulation-based model of social evolution (the latter two as a member of research groups at the Institute for Research on World-Systems at UCR).
